In the months before each festival we always try and put on as many Afrika Eye events as possible, both in the Watershed and elsewhere around Bristol. Including films, discussions, workshops, and talks, here's what's happened so far this year.
Wednesday 12 October
Simon and Jess ventured to UWE for Simon's talk on Zimbabwe and the making of ROBERT MUGABE ...WHAT HAPPENED? Excellent turn-out!
Saturday 1st October
AFRIKA EYE set up cinema at AFRIFEST 2011 in the crypt of the Malcolm X Centre in St Pauls to screen NO TIME TO DIE, a Ghanaian comedy which tells the story of a hearse driver who will do anything to win the love of a lady-in-mourning.
Friday 30th September
Ingrid set up screen at Westbury-on-Trym Methodist Church, which was host to the first evening of Bristol's AFRIFEST weekend. Delicious African food, music and a screening of MWE BANA BANDI, the story of Zambian children and the role music plays in their lives (showing at Afrika Eye Film Festival on Saturday 29 Oct 11.00), made for a buzzing evening!
Meanwhile...
Simon was at St Werburghs Centre, screening his film MBIRA MBIRA - SPIRIT OF THE PEOPLE, which was followed by a lively Q&A session.
Saturday 17 September 2011
Just six weeks before the main festival begins, The Afrika Eye stall at Kingsdown Home Grown community festival is flooded with eager punters. Our African animation (screened courtesy of Hamilton Bailey Associates and Kingsdown Home Grown Community Association ) attracted an enthralled audience of Kingsdowners and Cothomers both young and old.
Screening MBIRA MUSIC - SPIRIT OF THE PEOPLE, followed by Q and A with director Simon Bright.
The same weekend, 30 Sept and 1 Oct, we screen films at Afrifest in Westbury-on-Trym and at Malcom X Community Centre. More details coming soon.
Sun 9 Oct - Meal for Mozambique at Malcom X Community Centre. Film, music and good food from 1 - 4 pm to raise funds for projects in Beira.

Previous Festivals
Quite a few people have requested that we make an archive of the previous Afrika Eye Film Festival programmes, film synopses, stills, and so on, but we've been so busy arranging each new festival that we haven't given it a lot of time. However, by following the links below you can find details of the programmes and summary reports of the festivals from previous years:
